About Me

I'm Sharon Tomlin - BACP Registered Counsellor near Reigate and Dorking.  My route into counselling was shaped by both personal and professional experience. I grew up in a difficult environment with a single mother who struggled with addiction and emotional support wasn’t available. I struggled with the aftermath for years - loneliness, confusion and the deep questioning of what it means to feel safe, loved or worthy in relationships. Like many people, I carried this to adulthood - functioning on the outside and feeling lost, anxious and disconnected inside. Later I spent years working in the airline industry working under high pressure, quick thinking and putting others first. Working with many different backgrounds and cultures taught me a lot about people and deepened my understanding of how stress affects our bodies and minds. That lived experience combined with my clinical training, allows me to hold space for your story with compassion and clarity.

After experiencing counselling myself, I understand how it can help you to gain perspective and become empowered to make decisions to feel more in control in your life. It gave me the tools, language and emotional grounding I wish I’d had earlier in life. I have gained extensive experience working with young people aged 14 - 24 with Heads Together Youth Counselling. I have also trained in grief and loss counselling with a local hospice St. Catherines. I have also worked as a volunteer counsellor with Horsham and Crawley counselling group offering long term counselling support to the local community.

I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist (Dip.HE) and have trained integratively (CBT, Person-centred and Psychodynamic), which means I can draw upon the most suitable model for you and tailor the work where appropriate. I also hold a level 5 Counselling Children and Young Adults diploma. I have also undertaken additional training courses including Grief and Loss, Suicide Awareness, Menopause Matters, The Value of Autism, Shame, Holistic Recovery Course, Financial Wellbeing and Empowerment and Emotional Neglect.

I am a Registered member (MBACP) of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy), I adhere to their Ethical Framework to provide you with the highest standard of professional therapy, and am committed to continued professional development.
